ABOUT SHÁ GIVENS

 

Shá Givens has become one of the most powerful speakers of her generation. She has been featured in ESSENCE Magazine and Gospel Today Magazine, as well as appear on a host of television shows and news programs around the country. She is frequently seen discussing the affects of adverse poverty from a global perspective with dignitaries and local citizens world-wide.

She is the author of three books, which include: THROUGH THE STORM, I AM WOMAN Walking in God's Divine Purpose, and SEX and the SINGLE CHURCH SISTER: How To Keep Your Dress On When You Want To Take It Off. Givens is also a contributing writer to the Women of Color Devotional Bible and book. She is a playwright who delivers live musical theatre through stage plays such as Through The Storm and The Gift. She is also a licensed minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ at Faithful Central Bible Church in Inglewood, CA.

 

Givens is the recipient of several local and international awards for her efforts to change the plight of women, children and youth facing injustice around the globe. She is the founder of I CAN FLY International Inc., which is a non-profit organization based in the United States and Kenya, East Africa. Through the I CAN FLY organization she established two Adult Literacy Schools, two Pre-Schools, and an HIV/AIDS Awareness program in Kenya. Her family food programs for the hungry have fed over 1,300 villagers. Her schools have received academic awards from the Kenyan Government for achieving the highest test scores and largest enrollment in its region. In 2008, Givens opened the first I CAN FLY High School. She is currently in the planning phase of launching the BUTTERFLY Project for girls in East Africa. The BUTTERFLY Project offers free education, housing and enrichment activities to girls who seek refuge from child marriage and female mutilation as well as HIV/AIDS orphans.
